The computer term comes from a greek word "compute" which means to calculate a huge amount of data in a short time period,thats why the device is known as computer. First calculating device is ABACUS (2000 BC).
In earlier days computer is not invented for emailing, entertenment or other. It is invented for calculating huge amount of data in short time period. (like population calculation).
CHARLES BABBAGE invented Analytical Engine and Difference Engine.
